From May 10 to 13 the “Final Four” of the “Italian Padel Championship” (Serie “A”) took place in an unbeatable setting, in the majestic Foro Italico in Rome, where every year two padel courts are installed to host the most important tournament held in Italy.

The tournament was attended by the top 4 teams of the first category from all over Italy, who have passed the group stage.

In the first semifinal, “Circolo Canottieri Aniene” and “Orange Padel Club” met, the former won 3/2 and was able to reach the final.

In the other match, “Misano Out” met against “Área Pádel Rock,” where ManzaSport’s Jero Canas plays. Cañas’ team won 3/1 and got into the final.

The final began on Sunday, but because of rain it had to be rescheduled to Monday.

The two strongest teams of the Italian championship reached the final, the four-time champion and the main favorite was the team “Circolo Canottieri Aniene” from Rome, worth mentioning the WPT players who play in it, Brazilians Lucas Campagnolo and Lucas Bergamini, Pablo Lijo, Martin Di Nenno, Juan Restivo, Matias Nicoletti, Roberto Saba and Marta Marrero.

In it they met the great Padel Rock Area team from Rome, in this team competes the Granada based Argentine, Jerónimo Cañas, as well as great players like the Argentinean Miguel Lamperti, Lucho Capra, Germán Tamame, Marcelo Capitani, Adrian Biglieri, Toledo player Vero Virceda and the Argentinean Virginia Riera, along with high level Italian players.

The finals were very tight, and at 2-2, a playoff match had to be played between the top two pairs from each team. On one side, the pair formed by the Brazilians Lucas Campagnolo and Lucas Bergamini (pair 13 WPT) from Team Aniene, against the Argentinians Miguel Lamperti and Lucio Capra (pair 6 WPT) and representatives of Team Cañas.

The Argentines were winning 7/5 in the first set and 6/3 in the tiebreak of the second set, but they couldn’t use these three match points and lost 8/6.

In the third set they went back to a tiebreak and again had two match points, but again they couldn’t take advantage of them and lost 11/9.

Cañas says:The title slipped through our hands, but nothing to reproach any player, we have done everything possible to become champions and we will be back next year, besides I am very happy for the result, this is my first year in Serie A, and second place is a very important achievement, and the “Aniene” team became Italian champion for the fifth consecutive year.”
