Why do we make mistakes when playing padel?

We’re starting 2017, and I’m sure more than one of you have made New Year’s resolutions such as going to the gym, quitting smoking, eating better and just as I have set two goals for myself – stop using my mobile at all hours and try to teach you some tips to improve your padel.

Today we are going to talk about the «why» of mistakes, surely many of you are wondering why you make mistakes, when the real question you should ask yourself is “What can I do to learn from my mistakes?”.

The first thing you must be clear when you enter the padel court is to have a positive mindset, you can’t go into a game thinking you can’t win. So change the chip and think positive, but don’t worry, because if you don’t win at least you’ll learn something.

Unforced mistakes in a padel game can make or break you, and most of these mistakes are caused by fear of failure. The fear of failure is more common than we usually think, and this fear causes you to make mistakes in technique or tactics. You have to take risks, and if you know clearly what stroke you should use, use it, but don’t use another stroke for fear that the other one will not work, because you might make a mistake because of that uncertainty. If you fail at something, don’t worry, think about what you have done wrong and try to learn how to improve.

The keys to learn from mistakes, from my point of view are:

1. Take risks in the game, it is clear that we are not Bela or Lima to do certain things on the court, but if you always play the same way and use the same shots your game will become boring.
2. Learn from your mistakes, when you fail, think about why you have failed and try to put into practice what you have learned for the next game or padel match.
3. Consult with an expert. If you have doubts about the mistakes made, consult the professionals, instructors or teachers who can help you resolve your doubts about the possible mistakes you make and how to take advantage of them.
