Currently, the rules of the International Padel Federation (FIP) give us clear guidelines for all elements necessary to play padel, from nets, padel courts to the ball. You can read the FIP rules by following this link: Padel Rules.
But today we will talk about the padel ball, because only FIP-approved balls can be used for official competitions, which means that they meet the following characteristics.
- The padel ball must be a rubber ball with a uniform white or yellow outer surface.
- The diameter of the ball shall be between 6.35 and 6.77 cm.
- The weight shall be 56.0 to 59.4 grams.
- The rebound of a padel ball shall be between 135 and 145 centimeters when dropped from a height of 2.54 meters.
- The internal pressure of a padel ball shall be 4.6 kg to 5.2 kg per 2.54 square centimeters.
However, other types of padel balls, the same as those mentioned above, may be used when playing at altitudes above 500 meters above sea level, except that the rebound may be greater than 121.92 centimeters and less than 135 centimeters when falling to the surface from a height of 2.54 meters.
